Update for week of 13 February 2017

Final of Irish Times debate 2017 to take place in Bolton Street

For the first time, the grand final of the Irish Times Debate 2017 will be hosted in DIT Bolton Street this Friday.  The last time Bolton Street featured in the competition was in 1971 when Marian Finucane won the Individual Speaker award.  At that time, Marian was studying Architecture in Bolton Street. She was subsequently conferred with an Honorary Doctorate by DIT in recognition of her achievements in journalism and broadcasting.

This year a team from the re-energised Law and Debating Society has taken part in the early heats of the competition but didn’t make it to the finals.  However, supported by the School of Languages, Law and Social Science, they have persuaded the Irish Times to bring the competition back to the Michael O’Donnell Theatre this Friday evening, 17th February.  Anyone interested in attending should email debates@irishtimes.com or take a chance and turn up on Friday evening before 6pm to see if you get a seat!
