Update for week of 13 June 2016

Assignment of Directors to new roles and responsibilities

The President announced the assignment of two members of Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to new roles with responsibility for developing the Digital Campus and for the relocation of DIT to the new physical campus at Grangegorman.  Wishing Dr. Murphy and Mr. Flynn success in their new roles, the President said:

“As DIT makes preparations for the major move to our Grangegorman campus over the next five years, and as we continue to work towards designation as a Technological University with our partners in IT Blanchardstown and IT Tallaght, it is important to ensure that we are meeting the needs of every current and future student.

To succeed in these objectives, the focus of the Senior Leadership Team needs to be aligned to these priorities to ensure that we develop fit-for-purpose learning and teaching capabilities and facilities.  In light of this, the following re-assignment of responsibilities has been agreed with members of SLT:

Director, Campus Services & Relocation

As we prepare for large-scale migration from campus locations in Kevin Street, Cathal Brugha Street and Rathmines to the new academic quads in Grangegorman involving some 10,000 students and staff over the next two years, the need for a dedicated Director, Campus Services & Relocation has been identifiedMr. Paul Flynn, current Director, Finance and Resources, has been re-assigned to this role which incorporates responsibility for all current estates functions as well as for the planning, logistics and implementation of the transfer of staff, students and equipment to new facilities at Grangegorman.  Mr. Flynn will commence his new role on 01 July 2016.

Director, Digital Campus & Learning Transformation

A fundamental characteristic of DIT is a pervasive student-centred deep learning, expressed by a whole range of assessed outcomes and the enablement of learning and the delivery of student services through technology is key. Establishing and embedding these characteristics will be the focus of the ‘Digital Campus’, complementing the physical campus.  Having successfully led the co-ordination of the TU4Dublin application to Stage 4 of the process, Dr. Mike Murphy has accepted reassignment to the new role of Director, Digital Campus & Learning Transformation to deliver on this key aspect of the Technological University vision.  This post includes specific responsibility for ICT Services, the Learning Teaching and Technology Centre, and Staff Development.  Dr. Murphy will take up this role on 01 July 2016.”
