Update for week of 20 February 2017

Irish Times Debate hosted in DIT Bolton Street

The 2017 Irish Times Debate took place in DIT Bolton Street on Friday night, chaired by Minister for Children, Katherine Zappone TD.  The Minister and guests were welcomed to DIT by Professor Gerry Farrell, Director and Dean of the College of Engineering and Built Environment, who said “In a world where increasingly “debate” seems to take place by tweet and soundbyte, I hope you will agree that it is a genuine pleasure to have the opportunity this evening to witness and be a part of a live debate such as this.”

Hosted by the DIT Law and Debating Society, and supported by the School of Languages, Law and Social Sciences and DITSU, the event was a black-tie affair for speakers and hosts, creating a very glamourous atmosphere.  The organisation of the event was extremely successful, underpinned by the amazing support of Stephen Folan and his Estates team; and by the Aramark catering team managed by Martin.

DIT Societies Office has nurtured a resurgence of interest in debating through the Law and Debating Society over the last few years so perhaps next year a DIT team or speaker will go through to the finals of the competition.
