Update for week of 23 May 2016

Update on Irish Survey of Student Engagement 2016

This year DIT along with all the higher education institutions in Ireland participated in the Survey of Student Engagement 2016. This year 24% (1046) students from first year, 20% (739) students from final year undergraduate programmes and 19% (381) taught postgraduate students participated in the survey. The Student Survey is an important tool for students to share their views. Students have a major contribution to make in influencing the design of curricula, and in reviewing and providing feedback on their experience of college. This survey represents the only opportunity for a comprehensive national survey, delivered consistently in each HE institution and comparable with international surveys such as the US National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). DIT can analyse data from their own students internally and also relative to all participating institutions nationally, similar institution-types, or international comparable data.

National statistics and feedback on this year include

  • Another increase in national response rates and considerably more students continuing to the end of the survey
  • Please consider providing some initial feedback before the summer e.g. short email
  • Regional workshops on analysis of 2016 report files are scheduled for May / June and September / October – please consider attendance
  • It is time to consider fieldwork dates for 2017 in order to facilitate planning of academic calendars – three weeks during February and March 2017
  • Report on 2016 national results will be published in October / early November
