Update for week of 25 April 2016

1916 Commemorations in Aungier Street

Following the exciting programme of performances, exhibitions and lectures in DIT Aungier Street on Easter Monday, there are still opportunities to find out more about the history of the Jacob’s Biscuit Factory and the surrounding area at the time of the 1916 Rising.

A fascinating exhibition of photographs and stories, developed by the National Archive, remains on public display in the foyer of Aungier Street and is well worth a visit – it will remain on view during this academic year.  Some of the talks that were delivered on Easter Monday were recorded by our colleague Roy Moore and they are now available to view on our website at http://www.dit.ie/1916/.  There are also links to the online exhibition developed by the DIT Library Service, entitled “Workers & Rebels: Jacob’s Factory 1913-1916”.

On Friday 29th April at 5.30 pm, the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Críona Ní Dhálaigh will unveil the 1916 Jacob’s Factory Garrison Plaque on the building to commemorate the historic site.
