TU Dublin has a long tradition of engaging with society through civic engagement, public engagement and business engagement. TU Dublin is committed to contributing to social, cultural, technological and economic progress, through engagement with and within our community and has contributed to widening access to education as a core part of its mission. TU Dublin also aims to ensure high quality student development and graduate success through innovative use of community-based learning in its programmes.

Through its civic engagement activities TU Dublin:

  • Builds mutually beneficial partnerships with civil society, communities and other education sectors to create and exchange knowledge and develop pathways to learning
  • Provides transformative learning opportunities for a diverse range of students and widening participation in higher education
  • Impacts positively on Irish society, through engagement programmes addressing key societal issues and co-creating knowledge for better policy and practice
  • Enhances the quality of TU Dublin's education experience, supports student development and prepares life and career-ready graduates

 

Role of TU Dublin - City Campus Access and Civic Engagement Office

The role of TU Dublin - City Campus Access and Civic Engagement Office is to co-ordinate TU Dublin's access and civic engagement programmes and activities in the City Campus. The office is based in TU Dublin - City Campus Grangegoram and works in close partnership with other TU Dublin student development services, academic staff, TU Dublin students and a wide variety of community and education partners.

 

TU Dublin - City Campus Access and Civic Engagement Activities

The activities co-ordinated by the TU Dublin - City Campus Access and Civic Engagement Office include:

  • Engagement outreach programmes with primary schools, 2nd level schools and community organisations
  • Community engagement programmes in the Grangegorman area
  • Community-based research and learning (TU Dublin - City Campus Students Learning with Communities)
  • Access entry routes for school leavers and adults from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and for people with disabilities. 
  • Access Student transition and support
  • Student development programmes
  • Research, policy and practice-impact activities
