National Craft Certificate Apprenticeship in Wood Manufacturing & Finishing

The Wood Manufacturer and Finisher cuts, shapes and joins wood and wood based products using specialised machines, power and hand tools to manufacture and construct components such as table, chairs, doors and stairs. Knowledge of advanced CNC programming and use of computer aided manufacturing is essential for today’s bespoke industrial requirements.

There is a direct relationship between the nature and quality of the service required and the payment made by the client. Therefore the WMF craftsperson has a continuing responsibility to work professionally and interactively with the client in order to give satisfaction and thus maintain and grow the business. The Wood Manufacturer and Finisher generally works on commercial and residential assignments of a high quality and value. He or she will therefore exhibit very high standards of skill and professionalism in order to justify clients’ expectations and willingness to pay.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, apprentices are qualified to work within the recognised trade or profession. Where craftspersons have the necessary ability and initiative, opportunities are available for advancement. 

Many craftspersons use their qualification as a platform to launch careers such as managers, owners of businesses and instructors amongst others.
