BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology

What is an Architectural Technologist?

Architectural Technologists are technical designers skilled in the application and integration of architectural and construction technologies in the building design process. They are technical professionals trained to play a leading role in the increasingly complex technical design process which drives contemporary architecture and building.

What does an Architectural Technologist do?

The professional architectural technologist specialises in the technical design, detailing, specification and digital information modelling of buildings. They have an ability to satisfy technological, environmental, accessibility and sustainable performance requirements of the brief, with particular emphasis on statutory compliance, either as a member of a design team or as a private practitioner.

Working in multidisciplinary and collaborative design teams, technologists have the skills to communicate with and coordinate the work of other building design professionals.

With the rapid development of digital information technologies, DIT Architectural Technologists have emerged as leaders in the creation, integration and management of technical information through the medium of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
