I studied in DIT Bolton Street and graduated with a Diploma in Architectural Technology in 2001. After working in architectural practices for ten years I returned to DIT Bolton Street and received First Class Honours in the BSc in Architectural Technology in 2012 and followed this with a MSc in Energy Retrofit Technology in 2016 also receiving a First Class Honours award.
I have mostly worked in Dublin with a brief spell in Sydney, Australia. After my initial graduation I worked with Fenton Simons Associates and then its successor Fenton Associates. During a career break in 2003 I worked for DesignInc in Sydney. In 2013 I moved to Davey and Smith Architects where I am currently the Senior Architectural Technologist and an Associate.
The practices I have worked for focus on high quality architectural design with additional services as Planners and Development Consultants. The company’s portfolio ranges from private domestic clients, large commercial clients and builder-developers. This diverse client base has provided me with a wide range of experience in architectural projects with responsibilities spanning from preparing planning permissions, energy assessments, tender and construction drawings to site supervision and building regulation compliance inspections on projects encompassing bespoke domestic one-offs, commercial developments (nursing homes, medical centres, retail, offices) and large scale residential developments. I endeavour to bring a focus on energy efficiency into all projects, whether new build or retrofit. I also like to practice what I preach having undertaken a deep energy retrofit on my own home.
These are some NZEB retrofit design projects which I competed as part of my MSc in Energy Retrofit Technology in DIT:
