Lecturing in Building Information Modelling and Technical Design Studio

Malachy Mathews is a professional architectural technologist and lectures on the DT175 BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology programme. He is module coordinator for the Building Information Modelling and is the BIM leader in the School of Architecture and takes a leading role in BIM development in the College of Engineering and Built Environment. Malachy supervises final year undergraduate architectural technology dissertations and masters research on the MSc in Applied Building information and Management programme.

He was on the academic team from DIT on the Master in Sustainability, Technology and Innovation International Master's created by a consortium of the following universities: Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Purdue University, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. The Master STI designed under the framework of the Atlantis project for the development of joint degrees between the European Union and the United States of America.

Having had a 30 year career that straddled both the design and construction industry’s, he bring's unique insights into teaching. Malachy started full time lecturing in DIT in 2007 and has overseen the move from 2d representation to 3d simulation in the Architectural Technology program. Malachy played a central role in the creation of Irelands first MSc in applied Building Information Modelling/Management. He is currently a PhD candidate research in DIT researching BIM Anthropology and a side research interest in the synergies between BIM+Blockchain. He is a founder board member of ICAT (International Congress for Architectural Technology) and is the BIM Integration Advisor for IEBC (Integrated Engineering Blockchain Consortium)
