Architectural Technology: Third Year

The third year of the BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology programme consolidates the student's technical design skills in preparation for Semester 2 work placement.

The focus of Technical Design Studio is the use of engineered timber technologies in the design of multicellular, multi storey buildings.

Student are guided through a process which technically re-imagines existing buildings using various timber technology systems. These include cross-laminated timber, frame and panelised systems. Students are then tasked with deveoping a complete set of documents, from General Arrangement drawings to typical and critical details that will convey the proof of concept in the use of these technologies in a multicellular, multi storey building.

Through this the student becomes conversant with the current state of art of timber technologies and the implications for the Building Regulations.
