The Storage Unit project in first year Architecture is an introduction to design-build. Each student designs a unit for storing equipment, drawings and books for their studio space, learning to draw, model and survey to scale in the process. Then, in the wood and metal workshops, each student makes their individual unit over the course of a semester. The project is combines design thinking, understanding of materials, rigour in drawing and accuracy in making. Students keep a journal of the project throughout, reflecting on the evolution of the design and the practical challenges faced in the realisation of the storage unit.
