DT101/1 Capel Street Investigation

Over a period of five weeks, first year architecture students mapped and investigated the Capel Street and Parliament Street area of Inner City Dublin.

Working in groups of six, the students began by making maps of the neighbourhoods, then completed surveys and models of the streetscapes, buildings and facades, and the shop interiors.

This close observation and investigation provided the opportunity for students to learn a range of representation and mapping skills and to find ways of documenting their studies of the city. In parallel to the drawings and models made in design studio, students read and wrote about significant urban theorists in their History module.
