DT169 @ IrelandSkills Cabinetry 2017

Robert Blake and Eoghan Purtell (2nd year, DT169 Timber Product Technology, 201617) competed in the finals of 2017 IrelandSkills National Cabinetry Competition. Robert’s piece was deemed to be of a high enough standard that he was allowed compete in a play-off competition to decide who would represent Ireland at the Worldskills competition in Abu Dhabi in 2017. The Dean of the Collge, Prof. Gerry Farrell, subsequently requested that Robert lend the cabinet to the College as a display piece.

Working from a detailed set of working drawings Robert and Eoghan had 18 hours to make the solid maple and walnut veneered, free standing artefact of the highest quality. To make this piece they had to use a combination of hand tools, power tools and machines with all exposed joints required to be completed by hand.
