A number of students of DT169 B.Tech in Timber Product Technology took part in the finals of the Cabinetmaking Competition at IrelandSkills in the RDS from 21-23 March 2019. They are Conor Manning (3rd Yr), David Keogh Smith (2nd Yr) and Eoghan Purtell (who graduated from the programme last year). More information on the new centralised IrelandSkills event can be found on the www.irelandskillslive.ie website.
This is the first time that students of the Programme have filled 3 of the 6 available places in the Cabinetmaking Final, and is testament to the high level of skills and hard work they put in to get through the preliminary rounds of this prestigious competition. The competitors did very well under great time pressure in a daunting public setting, Eoghan, in particular, got very close to winning.
On another front Robert Blake, who also graduated from DT169 last year, represented Ireland in GRAZ, AUSTRIA at a skills-based event to celebrate WORLD WOOD DAY. Robert was invited based on his furniture design interpretation of the theme “Change”. More information can be found on the www.worldwoodday.org website.
The DT169 Programme Team congratulate Conor, David, Eoghan and Robert on their achievements and wish them every success in the future.
