Module Description

The aim of this module is to develop professional practice competencies related to dietetic assessment, evaluation and intervention in patients with nutrition-related chronic diseases in preparation for practice placement B. These competencies will be applied practically in both clinical inter-disciplinary environment and in non-clinical settings. The concepts of lifelong learning in the context of personal, professional practice and policy development will also be introduced.

Indicative Syllabus

1. Technical skills such as diet history taking, nutritional and clinical assessment, nutritional care plan formulation, clinical monitoring, and audit of interventions.
2. Application of research findings in the interventional setting (i.e. in the treatment of individuals and groups) including the principles of the nutrition care plan model (NCPM)
3. Core counselling skills and behavioural change competencies
4. Continuous professional development (CPD), lifelong learning and practice enhancement and development.
5. Professional communication in the clinical setting (e.g. chart notes) and non-clinical settings (e.g. technical report and scientific writing).
6. Non-clinical (e.g. students learning with communities) and clinically-orientated practical sessions (e.g. interdisciplinary practice, PBL clinical classes).
7. Reflective Practice Skills
8. Feedback- how to give, receive and act upon
9. Professionalism including Codes of Conduct
10. Consolidation of practice placement A
