Module Description

Module Overview: This module gives students a critical and reflective knowledge and understanding of Business and Economics journalism. The module is designed to make students competent to cover business news and be aware of the openings and opportunities for business and finance news and features. It also aims to make students aware of the importance of business and finance journalism and of the need to ensure that this area of Irish life is constantly under journalistic scrutiny.

Indicative Syllabus

Macroeconomic indicators: Measuring national income and output, GDP and GNP, the growth rate
Macroeconomic indicators: Interest rates and their determination
Macroeconomic indicators: The price level and inflation
Macroeconomic indicators: The balance of payment and exchange rates
Macroeconomic indicators: The euro and the role of the European Central Bank
