Overview
Introduce the learner to graphic communication in engineering through sketching and computer applications. This unit: Equips the learner with a range of knowledge and techniques necessary to create standardised 2D & 3D drawings to BS 8888 . The ability to use software packages to create 2D & 3D drawings. Demonstrates CAD capabilities & advantages compared to manual drawings.
Module AimsThe aim of this module is to develop the learner's knowledge and understanding of a typical CAD package .Successful completion of this module will provide the learner with an appropriate foundation to progress to the third year of the integrated Maintenance program.
Indicative Syllabus2D DRAWING:

BLOCKS:
Create a block, Insert blocks with varying scales.
Create a number of layers. Freeze, thaw, lock, unlock, switch on and off layers.
Create and use text styles, Set up dimension styles and use to create working drawings.
Create drawing templates.
Create orthographic drawings.
Create scaled plots/prints.
Create section views.
Demonstrate a number of OSNAP tools.
ENTITY CREATION:
Input lines, plines, circle and arc commands.
Insert blocks with attributes.
Introduction to 3D wireframes and solids.
LAYER:
MATERIALS:
Make use of Xrefs for joint access to designs.
Manipulate the UCS.
Modify and edit entities using trim, chamfer, fillet, etc.
Move, copy, mirror, array and rotate graphics.
PC. Software and printer/plotter.
PLOTTING:
Use paper space to effect plot/printing arrangements.
Use the default screen, Operate limits, grid, snap and zoom commands.
Use the hatch command.
Write a block to disk.
