Overview
This module addresses the theory and practice of electrical facilities maintenance including low voltage distribution systems. It builds on the material covered in Electro-Technology two, Power Electronics, and Instrumentation and Supply Systems.
Module AimsThe aim of this module is to provide the learner with an applied knowledge to enable them to be able to diagnose faults, and carry-out the appropriate maintenance action, in systems and components of electrical facility systems, including the low voltage distribution system
Indicative SyllabusBuilding Environmental Control Systems.
Cables, and wiring systems.
Co-ordinate delivery with Supply Systems module.
Correct use of relevant instrumentation.
Earthing systems.
Electrical distribution systems in buildings. Excluding communication engineering, but including basic concepts of EMI, and segregation between power and data cablingand devices.
Electrical facilities.
Energy management including tariffs.
Hazardous Areas.
Heating Systems: Industrial, Space, and Water.
Lighting systems including emergency Lighting Systems.
Lightning and static protection systems.
Operation and maintenance of standard equipment and systems.
Overview of protection, control, and switching systems.
Relevant safe practice.
Workshop construct of a selection of electrical installations.
