Module Description

This module builds upon the knowledge gained from the first stage of the programme and introduces new mathematical concepts and techniques in matrix algebra and statistics.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to further develop the learner's knowledge and understanding of the relevant mathematical concepts and to improve the learners ability in applying analytical techniques to engineering applications.

Indicative Syllabus

Gaussian elimination method.
MC1 Linear Algebra:
MC2 Simultaneous Equations
MC3 Statistics:
Matrix notation, addition subtraction and multiplication of matrices.
Normal, Binomial and Poisson probability distributions.
Solution of sets of linear equations using.matrix inversion techniques.
Transpose and inverse of a square matrix.
Unit Matrix.
