Module Description

This module introduces students to the professional production of radio. It is taught through a series of hands-on workshops and classes exploring the theory and practice of radio broadcasting. This module culminates in the total production of a 'live' on-air radio station - DIT FM. The station will be broadcast to the greater Dublin area via FM and worldwide on the web. Students will be responsible for the concept, production and the output of recorded and live sequences.

Module Aims

This module aims to engage students in the production of 'live' radio broadcasting. Students will be taught the theory and practice of radio presenting. It will introduce the concept of schedule building dealing with the tensions of commercial radio and public service formats. It will teach students script writing for both feature programme making and live broadcasting. It will teach students how to use and operate a modern radio desk and computer software. It will emphasize the need for proper programme planning and preparation.
