Module Description

This module will enable students to critically engage with the Irish Audio Visual industry and the transactions involved in and arising from its imbrication in a global market. This module provides an introduction to the role of the Producer and Production Company in the production of audio-visual works. It will build on the knowledge obtained in Narrative production emphasising the importance of good business practices in production. The module will introduce learners to the development process from option agreement through pre-production to production. The course examines the general financial framework within which the media industry operates and the means by which the industry sells and distributes its products. It will examine Irish and European funding supports in terms of distribution and marketing strategy

Module Aims

This module aims to: - Critically evaluate and compare support mechanisms for the funding of Irish media productions; - Provide an understanding of the importance of the business dimension of the media industry; - To further develop the learner's knowledge of the documentation and paperwork produced during productions.
