Learning Outcomes

LO9 Measure the surface finish of a variety of surfaces in accordance with different measuring parameters.
LO10 Calibrate a CNC milling machine using a variety of methods.
On successful completion of this module, the learner will be able to:
LO1 Specify and correctly interpret surface finish requirements, geometric tolerances and dimensional tolerances on engineering drawings.
LO4 Justify the need for and explain errors associated with surface finish.
LO3 Describe methods for validating a part in relation to these specifications.
LO11 Discuss the meaning of a number of terms associated with quality control and quality management.
LO8 Measure a variety of engineering parts using a variety of measuring techniques.
LO7 Describe a number of methods measuring spur gears, perform associated calculations & explain what the measured values represent.
LO6 Interpret and analyse the data produced during the calibration procedures.
LO5 Describe a variety of methods used to align & calibrate CNC type machines.
LO14 Construct a variety of statistical control charts, interpret their meaning and provide recommendations on their findings.
LO13 Describe the operation of a variety of quality management techniques.
LO12 Describe the purpose of and the requirements of a variety of quality management standards and philosophies.
