Module Description

Built Environment - A. Environmental Health. Food premises design. The module provides an overview of the principals, design, and function of mechanical and electrical services, and plant in buildings, with particular emphasis on those elements that contribute or impact upon human health.

Module Aims

This module aims to further develop students understanding of Building Technology as it relates to Human Health and wellbeing. To further the knowledge of Building Construction, drawing techniques and the design of buildings - particularly domestic (dwellings) construction imparted in TFBE1001.

Indicative Syllabus

Introduction / Brief; Design theory Design Principles -Matrix. Functional layout. Building layout. Building finishes. Industrial indoor drainage. Materials design of premises incorporating environmental health aspects of layout, finishes and services. Introduction to ventilation, lighting and heating. Principles of ventilation. Ventilation plant and equipment. Ventilation in the workplace. Principles of lighting. Principles of heating. Building Energy Rating. Energy Conservation.
