Module Description

The module commences with a conceptual treatment of genetics and proceeds to apply this in exploring the process of evolution. The plant and animal kingdoms are delineated using the principles of evolution .The study of ecology draws together all the foregoing matters and applies them in the matter of the field trip. Finally, the impact of man upon the environment is examined. This part of the module presents the principal parasites of man to be encountered by the environmental health inspector in Ireland. This includes various ectoparasitic insects and mites. The treatment of insects and mites is extended to cover such species as are pests of stored produce, and insects responsible for transmitting food poisoning organisms. Attention is also given to insects whose juveniles may function as monitors of water purity.
