Module Description

This course provides an overview of the theory and thought behind negotiation and conflict management. It also provides the tools and techniques necessary to identify and manage negotiation and conflict within the hospitality/tourism /leisure/event industry. The delivery methods emphasise role playing and skill building exercises to help the student gain the first hand experience necessary for successful negotiation and conflict resolution.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to equip the student with the skills required to manage conflict and negotiate effectively in the hospitality industry.

Indicative Syllabus

Principles and theory of Conflict Skills to manage conflict within a / tourism / leisure / event organisation Managing different conflict styles in the / tourism / leisure / event industry Identify processes to deal with conflict in the / tourism / leisure / event industry Identify and understand your own conflict style Principles and theory of Negotiation Identify different negotiating styles Develop effective bargaining power Identify and manage players interests, identify solutions to over come impasse Identify skills to negotiate with difficult people Identify reasons why negotiations fail Understand the use of mediation in the hospitality / tourism / leisure / event industry
