Overview

Module Description

This module introduces students at the beginning of their programme to the evolution, concepts and procedures in environmental health. It also gives an overview of public administration and how environmental health is managed by the State.

Module Aims

This module aims at; giving an overview of environmental health, Introducing issues in environmental health in respect of public health, food, air, water and waste. Giving an understanding of public administration as it applies to environmental health and an appreciation of the functions of public bodies that impact on environmental health.

Introduction to environmental health
History of public health and environmental health
Issues in environmental health in public health, food, water, air, waste
Public administration- relevant public sector organisations
Specific environmental health policies and procedures and relevant organisations
The concept of physical, social and human worlds.
