Module Description

This module will provide students with a sound understanding of the effects of man's activities on the Hydrologic Cycle including impacts on soil and water resources. It will address key aspects of drinking water supplies and their vulnerability to contamination as well as the processes used to treat potable water.

Indicative Syllabus

The Hydrologic cycle and pollution. Diffuse pollution including farm wastes, septic tanks and stormwater. Quality criteria for beneficial water uses including drinking water sources, recreational waters and fisheries.
Vulnerability factors for surface waters sources and private wells. Water-borne diseases. Water treatment processes including disinfection and fluoridation requirements.
