Module Description

This programme is intended for students whose native language is not English, but whose competence in English approaches that of C1 - Proficient User (Lower Grade) of the Council of Europe linguistic guidelines. The programme enables students to use their English language skills to communicate their ideas and opinions effectively. This programme allows students to gain the maximum linguistic benefit from a variety of complex texts dealing with a wide range of subjects. It also enables students to produce texts both written and spoken that require an understanding and controlled use of connectors and other organisational devices. It heightens students' cultural awareness of Ireland and other English-speaking countries.

Module Aims

Further develop the students' competence and confidence in the use of English in English-speaking environments, including academic ones Further develop the students' knowledge of English to produce texts on a range of subjects Further develop the students' ability to convey their ideas and opinions with fluency and coherence on complex issues and subjects Further develop the students' cultural awareness of Ireland and the English-speaking world in line with their growing competence and practice in the English language Facilitate the students' integration into life in Ireland
