Module Description

This module is intended for non-native speakers of English who have a level of fluency of C1/C2 (Proficient User) of the Council of Europe? language guidelines. The programme is an English course at a very high level for those who wish to further develop their command of English to the point at which they will be regarded as proficient users by native speakers. It enables students to communicate effectively and with ease in a range of subject matters. It enables students to acquire the necessary skills to analyse and summarise information from a variety of sources. It enables students to gain the organisational and language skills needed to convey complex information in lengthy texts. It also aims to expand the breadth and depth of the students?understanding and knowledge of cultural topics about Ireland and other English-speaking countries

Module Aims

Develop the students' command of English, spoken and written, to the point of fluency in everyday and academic situations Develop the students' use of English to communicate with ease and fluency in complex situations and subjects Develop students' ability to summarise and reconstruct information from a variety of sources both spoken and written Further develop the students' cultural awareness of Ireland and other English-speaking countries in line with their growing competence and practice in the English language Further develop the students' interest in reading independently in English, and in pursuing academic and cultural interests with linguistic ease Facilitate the students' integration into life in Ireland
