Module Description

The module prepares students for language situations relevant to their particular specialism.This module is part of the Get Smart! initiative.

Module Aims

To develop language competence in specific work/professional and social situations while continuing the general development of independent language learning skills.

Indicative Syllabus

Giving directions. Giving information about your business: guided task-based role-play dealing with routine enquiries. Written communication (1) - Understanding external correspondence - emphasis on grammar and vocabulary. Written communication (2) - Drafting replies to incoming correspondence. (Email/letter/fax). Reading comprehension (1) Reading comprehension (2) - emphasis on vocabulary and relevant grammar points. Revision of numbers and alphabet. Understanding basic telephone skills. Continuation of basic telephopne skills - taking/giving short basic messages dealing with routine enquiries. Review of civilisation of target country. General overview. Revision of grammar points from modules 1 and 2. Independent revision of selected course work on WEB CT. Review and exam preparation.
