Module Description

Health Promotion concepts, methodologies and preventative strategies will be examined. This module addresses the effectiveness of health promotion strategies with particular emphasis on Irish interventions and students will develop appropriate intervention programmes based on community needs.

Indicative Syllabus

Concepts of Health, Environmental Determinants of Health, Influences on Health, Measuring Health. The Health Belief and Health Action Model. National Health Strategy, Health Promotion in Ireland Models of Health Promotion. Ethics, Politics, Healthy Alliances.
Community partnerships, Community Based Learning. Assessment of Needs. Planning and implementation in different settings. Mass Media - the role media plays in health promotion and health education. Evaluation Methods.
