Overview
This is an introductory module to the complex activity of people management. The module examines both Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations. This module is part of the Get Smart! initiative.
Module AimsThe main aim of this module is to introduce students to the basic components of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations.
Indicative SyllabusIntroduction: Introduction to Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations. Employee Resourcing: human resource planning, Recruitment and Selection, Employee Induction. Employee Development: Training policies and plans, Identification of training and development needs, Setting learning outcomes, Training methods Administration of training, Evaluation of training, Learning theories and styles. Performance Appraisal: Policies and practices Employee Reward Strategies: Financial and non financial rewards, Components of a reward management package, National reward strategies. Employment Law: Individual labour law Role and Activities of Trade Unions and Employer Associations in Ireland Institutions of Industrial Relations: Labour Court Labour Relations Commission, Rights Commissioners Workshop One: Selection interviewing skills Workshop Two: Performance appraisal skills Workshop Three: Grievance and discipline skills Workshop Four: Employment Law cases
