Overview
This 'double' module is a key 'capstone' course for the final year of a B.Sc. Honours level programme. This module will offer students an opportunity for individual and group reflection on topical business issues in the tourism, hospitality leisure and event sectors, with specific reference to their own Internship and professional experience. It will offer a strong opportunity to contextualise this experience in terms of current academic and industry concerns. The module will reflect a holistic management perspective rather than rooted in one specific discipline.
Module AimsTo develop in each student the ability to contextualiase current strategic issues of management in the hospitality, tourism, leisure and event industry, based on their internship and professional experience through reflective study and self-directed learning.
Indicative SyllabusIntroduction to Seminar Structures, Identification of strategic management issues in the Hospitality, Tourism, Leisure and Event sectors.
Seminar 1 - Managing Teams in HTL&E
Seminar 2- Management Styles of the HTL&E manager
Seminar 3 - Leadership in the HTL&E industry
Seminar 4 - HR issues in HTL&E industry
Seminar 5 - Marketing issues in the HTL&E industry
Seminar 6 - Finance for the HTL&E industry
Seminar 7 - Operations of the HTL&E industry
Sessions 9-12 to cover four current hot topics in the HTL&E industry.
