Module Description

To give the student a good understanding of and the capacity to deal with mathematical data and problem solving using statistical methods and computer/IT skills. Use of computer packages relevant to EH will be introduced.

Indicative Syllabus

Significant numbers Area and volume computations Logarithmic notation, powers, indices and exponentials SI units and metric prefixes Introduction to statistics in environmental health science Data presentation and interpretation including charts and graphs Introduction to concepts of probability and risk Summarising raw scientific and health related data Basic calculus - functions, estimating and predicting Computer and IT skills Word Processing Spreadsheets Introduction to Databases Presentations Internet and email.
