Module Description

In this module, students are helped to evaluate, monitor and take charge of their individual progress in acquiring and improving their Spanish language skills. A number of background topics (geography and climate, education, culture and society) form the unifying themes which integrate the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. This module is part of the Get Smart! initiative.

Module Aims

The aim of this module is to facilitate students' transition from 2nd level to 3rd level methodologies in foreign language learning.

Indicative Syllabus

Evaluation - diagnostic assessment; dictionary usage; understanding grammatical terms; Spanish orthography. (Geography of Spain), Pronunciation and patterns of stress; listening, reading aloud, pronunciation exercises. (Education), Practice in the principal verb conjugation groups, radical and orthography changing verbs, common irregular verbs. (Society and Culture), Asking, Requesting, Describing, Comparing (Society and Culture), Sentence building, Syntax; personal pronouns; false friends Assessment Uses of 'Ser' and 'Estar'; Prepositions: 'Por' and 'Para' contrasted. Expressions of time; cardinal and ordinal numbers; expressions of quantity Assessment
