Module Description

Language preparation relevant to services required in hospitality, tourism and leisure industries. This module is part of the Get Smart! initiative.

Module Aims

To develop language competence in specific work/professional and social situations while continuing the general development of independent language skills.

Indicative Syllabus

Advertising your business: Describing its functions and its facilities Preparation/understanding of promotional vocabulary relevant to industry (written and oral). Promotional leaflet/advertisement/. Oral presentation of above. Written communication (1) - Understanding external correspondence, attention to relevant grammar points. Written communication (2) - Drafting replies to incoming correspondence (e-mail/fax/letter). Relevant points of grammar. Civilisation of target country - general overview with a specific look at a chosen area. Giving information about your business - guided task-based role play dealing with routine enquiries. Written preparation - notices for guests/public with emphasis on relevant points of grammar. Dealing with bookings - guided task-based role play relevant to industry. Oral revision of basic telephone skills including the alphabet and numbers. Basic telephone skills contd. - taking short, simple messages and dealing with routine enquiries. Review and exam preparation.
