Level 8 Engineering Degree Programmes

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering offers two BE degrees, Level 8 professional engineering programmes.  These are the BE in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and BE in Computer and Communications Engineering.  These two degrees are managed under a single code: DT021A. Both degrees are accredited by Engineers Ireland. Entry to DT021A is via the DIT Level 8 Common Engineering First Year (CAO Code DT066). DIT also welcomes Mature and Non-Standard applicants.

Students enter the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering on completion of the DT066 Common First Year. After a common second year, students then select two of the 5 major stream choices which make up DT021A.  The major streams are as follows:

Communications Engineering

Computer Engineering

Control Engineering

Electrical Power Engineering

Electronic Engineering

Students selecting the Communications Engineering and the Computer Engineering major streams graduate with the BE in Computer and Communications Engineering degree.  Students taking the other combinations graduate with the BE in Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree. Both degrees include a 6-month industrial placement in Year 3 of the programme.

Students with appropriate qualifications or prior learning can also seek Advanced Entry to Year 2 or Year 3 of these programmes.
