DIT Hothouse won the 2017 Spin-out Company Impact Award for Kastus Technologies and Dr. Paul Maguire Senior Licensing Exec at DIT Hothouse won the Knowledge Transfer Achiever of the Year Award last night at the KTI Awards ceremony held at the Royal Kilmainham Hospital.

The Spin-out Company Impact award win, which was voted on by an international panel of industry experts, comes just three months after  DIT Hothouse spin-out company Kastus Technologies, secured €1.5 million in an investment round led by the Atlantic Bridge University Fund.  Kastus Technologies has also launched two new revolutionary superbug-killing products, Log4+ and Kastus Metal,  at the Arab Health event held in Dubai at the start of the year.

Reflecting on the awards, Tom Flanagan, Centre Director, DIT Hothouse, said: “Kastus Technologies is a great example of a High Potential Start-Up with global ambitions coming out of research at DIT CREST. We look forward to seeing Kastus Technologies achieve its ambitions saving lives around the world by killing off superbugs on surfaces everywhere.  We have a range of other inventions and technologies from computer science to material science that are ready to go and just need someone with the entrepreneurial flair of John Browne, CEO Kastus Technologies to take them to market. It is entrepreneurial talent that makes the real difference.

It is also the support that the Knowledge Transfer Office can provide in connecting the right entrepreneur or business partner with the right invention and access to finance.   Dr. Paul Maguire our Senior Licensing Executive has done this better than most.  He has completed more high value deals than any other Licensing Executive in Ireland.  We are very proud of his achievements and delighted that he was awarded the Knowledge Transfer Achiever of the Year 2017.  It is well deserved.”

Dr. Paul Maguire has played a pivotal role in the success of DIT achieving one of its core strategic goals to “Build research & innovation capacity in targeted fields, creating useful knowledge, and addressing real challenges in new and innovative ways.” Paul’s work on developing new start-ups and the ongoing support he provides them has allowed these spin-outs to thrive making DIT one of the best places in Ireland to spin out companies.
