DIT Hothouse Start-up, Izzy Wheels, Wins Top Accenture ‘Leaders of Tomorrow 2017' Award

Current Hothouse ‘New Frontiers’ participant, Ailbhe Keane of Izzy Wheels, won the Accenture ‘Leaders of Tomorrow 2017’ Award at last Thursday’s packed out final, held at Accenture’s HQ in Dublin’s Silicon Docks. The award comprised €5,000 and a space on the NDRC Launchpad programme - a three month accelerator programme for start-ups.

The company offers a platform that allows wheelchair users to personalise their chairs. Inspired by the founder, Ailbhe’s, younger sister, Izzy Wheels helps transform a medical device into a piece of fashion and self-expression. This is done by creating customised wheelchair spoke guards that allow users to express their individuality. Their tagline is ‘If you can’t stand up, stand out’.

Reflecting on the award, Ailbhe Keane, Izzy Wheels’ Founder, said: 'I’m so delighted to win this award because it means we are one step closer to bringing disability fashion to the forefront. We want to create a movement in how society perceives wheelchairs and show the positive impact they can bring to people’s lives.'
