Hothouse Start-ups Steal the Show at BoI Start-up Awards!

Hothouse Start-ups, SmartTrace, Popertee and Izzy Wheels all won awards at the recent BOI Start-up Awards

DIT Hothouse Start-ups win Awards in the ‘Best Sustainable Start-up’, ‘Creative Retail Start-up’ & ‘Best Product & Manufacturing Start-up’ Categories,

  • SmartTrace assists firms to fulfil their business, regulatory and CSR responsibilities. It achieves this through tracking, recording and analysing commercial waste. Aside from save money, it aims to save time, effort and do good by the environment.
  • Popertee uses Artificial Intelligence to match the perfect audience with the perfect location, enabling brands to find the optimum short term retail space.
  • Izzy wheels design stylish and functional customised spoke guards for wheelchairs.


Ailbhe Keane, Founder of Izzy Wheels, shared her excitement, 'We are delighted to win this award! Our mission is to create stylish and original products for the disability community so winning a prize in this category gives us a nice boost'.

Marcin Kulik, Founder of SmartTrace, said, ‘Winning the ‘Sustainable Start-up Category’ at the Bank of Ireland Start-up Awards 2017 is a great ending to an amazing first year. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped us, in many cases superseding our expectations. A special thanks goes to the DIT Hothouse Team, those at New Frontiers,  Enterprise Ireland, Sustainable Nations and LEO Fingal for their ongoing outstanding support.

All three recently participated on the Enterprise Ireland funded ‘New Frontiers’ programme. The programme runs several times a year, during which entrepreneurs receive training, incubator space and up to €15,000 in a tax / equity free cash stipend.

‘New Frontiers’ is Enterprise Ireland’s national entrepreneur development programme. It is delivered by DIT Hothouse, in conjunction with IADT Media Cube in Dun Laoghaire. It comprises 3 phases and offers successful entrepreneurs a combination of training, incubator space and up to €15,000 in a tax / equity free stipend. Recruitment takes place circa every 3 months.
