My name is Caoimhe Lynch. In November 2017, I graduated from DIT with a BA (Hons.) in Early Childhood Education. During my 3 years in DIT I completed a number of practice placements. I feel that these hands on experiences were where the majority of my learning came from. DIT afforded me the opportunity to put all of the theory that I had been studying throughout my course into practice.
In February 2016, I embarked on what was, perhaps, the most exciting portion of my studies. I went on a 6 month Erasmus to Berlin. During my time in Berlin, I attended a partner University and also completed a placement in a bilingual Fröbel Kindergarten. I enjoyed my time in Berlin so much that I ended up staying for 8 months and now plan to move to Berlin this coming September to work in the Early Years Sector over there.
On completion of my course, I was accepted on to the Community Service Volunteer (CSV) Program, an internship program run by Focus Ireland. With the skills and practical tools that I had gained during my time in DIT, I have found myself not only capable of working closely with vulnerable children but also directly with their families as a unit. Within the social care and early years sector I have found myself crossing paths with many DIT early years graduates who now find themselves working in an array of careers, with endless possibilities. After my CSV year I will then be qualified to work towards completing a Masters in Social Work which I look forward to with great anticipation.
I feel that I owe a great deal to the ever supportive staff throughout DIT who guided me through my course and helped to develop my confidence, I find myself fondly recounting my time in DIT and am ever grateful for the lifelong friends that I made.
