Artur Pytlarz

I completed my first Masters course in the field of Sociology back in Poland and was coming to the MA in Criminology with this background. Starting again at the age of 37 wasn’t an easy decision, yet it was a decision which changed my life.

The MA in Criminology at the DIT is a versatile course, it gathers people with different interests and academic backgrounds, such as law or in my case sociology. The course allows you, through various modules, to find your way into criminology or to deepen the existing interests/knowledge. While doing the programme I developed my interest in rural criminology. The MA course was a great introduction to current topics in this field as well as getting to know other lecturers and researchers in my area of interest. During the course of the programme, I decided that I wanted to progress my research idea in rural security and governing of crime on a PhD level, which I am currently completing as an Irish Research Council scholar.
