Coal Story - Darek Fortas
9th August 2011
Congratulations to DIT School of Media, BA Photography student, Darek Fortas who has won the inaugural Propeller Art Award. Organised by Fire, this national competition is open to all final year students in photography, fine art, illustration and the creative practices. In addition to the cash prize, Darek secures an Artist’s residency in the Copper House Gallery. According to Fire it is intended that this competition will be an annual event and that it will provide a significant springboard for the winner’s career after graduation. It is also hoped that the interaction and discipline of competition entry will help raise students’ understanding of best practice in process and the production of finished art.
Congratulations also to DIT student Anna Wickham who was also shortlisted for the Award.
According to Fire the standard of work presented by all finalists was outstanding, and a great reflection on the graduates of 2011.
