Calling all DIT Staff Academic mentors wanted for DIT Athlete Support Programme
DIT Sport & Recreation Service runs a hugely successful Athlete Support Programme in partnership with the Irish Institute of Sport with the aim of ‘developing maximum sporting performance alongside academic excellence.’ To support the programme, the Sport & Recreation Service are now looking to appoint specific academic mentor (s) to support our high performance athletes to balance the demands of their academic work with the requirement of top-level sport.
The mentor would have the following duties:
- Engage effectively with the Sport & Recreation Service Team to help create an environment that is supportive of high performance sport
- Support in negotiating necessary flexibility to meet academic requirements where sporting commitments prevent the athlete from attending tutorial/lecture/practical times
- Engage with the Sport & Recreation Team to monitor the academic progress of the student
- Negotiate flexible learning agreements to facilitate student-athlete training and competitive needs
- Advocacy for the high performance athlete within the Institutions environment
