ROUGE Team enjoy a warm welcome in TU DublinPosted: 4 February, 2019
On January 30, Professor Yvonne Galligan and her research team held an all-day meeting with 15 European researchers. Their task was to shape a proposal for Horizon 2020 funding.
With just 63 days to go before submission, they shared thoughts and practical suggestions on Research Organisations and Universities for Gender Equality (ROUGE). They focussed on removing barriers to the recruitment, retention and promotion of female researchers; addressing gender imbalances in decision-making processes; and integrating a gender dimension in research and innovation.
The crosscutting themes of male advocates, intersectionality and global reach added an extra layer of interest to the discussion. Consultant Catherine Halbert, facilitated by Enterprise Ireland through the co-ordinator grant fund, kept the team’s feet firmly on the ground and their thoughts in the realms of reality.
The participants hailed from Portugal, Spain, Italy, Austria, Northern Ireland, Cyprus and Turkey, as well as Ireland. They were welcomed to TU Dublin by Professor Brian Norton, Principal of the TU Dublin City Campus. At lunch in St Laurence’s, Grangegorman, many more TU Dublin colleagues and doctoral students turned out to greet the guests and forge new international friendships.
At the close of the day, having generated many fruitful ideas and shared good conversations, all went separate ways. The next stage is to redraft the ROUGE proposal. It will be so much easier now that the consortium members know one another and enjoyed their time in TU Dublin. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.
