TU Dublin student wins Gold and Silver at Young Chef Olympiad

TU Dublin Culinary Arts student, Ryan Malone has won Gold and Silver medals for Ireland at the 5th World Young Chef Olympiad in India. Ryan was awarded the Gold medal for Young Chef Ambassador and Silver in the Cook Off category.

Commenting on his success Ryan said ‘It’s a great honour to be awarded these medals at this level.  Culinary Arts has already opened up a world of opportunities that I never previously imagined’. 

Ryan’s mentor, George Smith, Lecturer in Culinary Arts in TU Dublin – City Campus, who accompanied him at the competition, said he was extremely proud of his young student:  ‘This is a very exciting and rewarding time to be a young chef.  The goal in TU Dublin is to raise the profile of the culinary arts, and to try to encourage more young people to consider it as a career option.  An event like the World Young Chef Olympiad is a major opportunity to get recognition of your talent as a chef. “

In total, student chefs from over 55 countries competed in this prestigious international competition which took place over a 5 day period in four of India’s major cities - New Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and Kolkata.
