Summer 2019 - More Information & Registration here
Closing Date for Applications: 1st June 2019
Current TU Dublin staff who would like to participate on an Irish language course in the Gaeltacht at any level may apply for the scholarship. The scholarship is worth €200 per person which will be paid directly to the course provider. The days spent on the Gaeltacht courses are recognised by Human Resources as training days but you must receive prior permission from your line manager to attend any course and a list of the courses is available here
Current TU Dublin Library, Estates and Student Services Staff can also avail of an additional scholarship that covers course fees and accommodation costs for week-long Irish language courses taking place with Oideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal this summer. This additional scholarship is provided as part of TU Dublin’s Official Languages Act Scheme 2018-2021 commitments in which Libraries, Estates and Student Services are prioritised as key public facing departments to develop service provision through Irish over the coming years. Five staff members from Library Services are currently participating on a 20 week online Certificate in Professional Irish programme with the aim of providing library services through Irish, over time.
Current TU Dublin students can apply for a scholarship to spend a week learning Irish with Oideas Gael in Gleann Cholm Cille, Co. Donegal - any week from the 8th June until the end of August at any level. The Oifig na Gaeilge scholarship will cover the tuition fees and the cost of self-catering accommodation, which is paid directly to Oideas Gael. Students must pay €50 and their travel and food expenses, except for the courses taking place in Gleann Fhinne, which are more expensive as no self-catering accommodation is available.
The Gaeltacht courses are available from Complete Beginners level – for those who have never studied the language; Improvers who want to brush up on their Gaeilge and for Fluent Speakers who want to improve their grammar and enrich their vocabulary. Classes take place during the day and Gaeilge activities run every evening provided by 10 different Irish language organisations located throughout the country.
To date over 270 TU Dublin staff and students have attended courses in the Gaeltacht since the scheme started ten years ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have noted a major improvement in their Irish.
