Graduated with first class honours from the DIT optometry programme in 1985. A registered Optometrist with Bord na Radharcmhaistóirí (Opticians Board), a member of the Association of Optometrists, Ireland, the British College of Optometrists and the European Academy of Optometry & Optics. Worked in private practice in Ireland & UK between 1985 & 2002. Shortly after returning to Ireland from UK in 1995 commenced part-time teaching on the optometry programme in DIT and was appointed a full time lecturer in 2002.

Currently lecturing in the areas of binocular vision and spectacle dispensing. Established the Binocular Vision Clinic within the National Optometry Centre in October 2007. Has previously delivered post-graduate CPD lectures and workshops on the topics of accommodative and vergence anomalies and advanced clinical techniques to optometrists in DIT and Unilúrio, Mozambique & in conjunction with Association of Optometrists Ireland.
