John Short

Design Lecturer

Background

John Short is from Fife in Scotland and is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and the Royal College of Art, London where he was awarded a travelling scholarship, The Berger Colour Prize and won The Royal College of Art Drawing Prize.

He worked as a freelance illustrator in London and in Ireland for various publications including commissions from The Sunday Times, Harpers & Queen, Vogue, The Irish Times and The Sunday Independent. He has had his illustrations published by Walker Books and Random House Group.

He contributes his paintings and prints to many gallery group and solo exhibitions including The Royal Hibernian Summer Exhibition, The Irish Watercolour Annual Exhibition, The Open Eye Gallery, Edinburgh, The Solomon Gallery, Dublin and V Gallery in Shanghai. He was awarded the artists prize in the Royal Watercolour Society annual exhibition in London in 2012. His work appears in many private and corporate collections nationally and internationally.

He is currently working on a collection of drawings, paintings and sculptures from Ireland, China and Australia.

John is a Senior Lecturer in Drawing and Imagemaking in the School of Art, Design & Printing at The Dublin Institute of Technology.
